Kristen Ashley's Chocolate Cherry Cake

My boys wanted a chocolate cherry cake for Thanksgiving, so I found this recipe for Gramma Moutaw's Chocolate Maraschino Cherry Cake on Kristen Ashley's website, and it was delicious.  I made only one change, I added some almond extract to the cake and icing as well as the vanilla extract.  Mine cooked for about 45 minutes, but check it after about 30 minutes.  This is easy, delicious, and full of flavor.  I have no calorie information on this one, I don't even want to think about calories on this one, I made it for Thanksgiving and didn't count calories that day, so just guess it's going to be high :).  My kids and mom gave this a perfect 10, and my dad and I gave it a 9.  Try it, it's delicious!

Kristen Ashley's Milky Way Cake

I found this cake on Kristen Ashley's website, and it's hard to turn down a candy bar filled cake.  Although it didn't taste exactly like Milky Ways, this was such a good cake.  The boys and I gave it a perfect 10, and Aaron gave it a 6, because we all know how he feels about cake.  This is buttery, flavorful, and has a texture similar to really moist carrot cake.  I followed the recipe for the cake exactly, but didn't use nearly the amount of powdered sugar that the recipe called for.  The recipe says 1 1/2 boxes of powdered sugar, and I used 3/4-1 c of powdered sugar.

Each serving was only 313 calories the way I made it, when cut into 24 pieces.  This is good, easy, and worth making.

Kristen Ashley's Apple Caramelumble

Kristen Ashley made us another winner again, I love me some crumble, and this is just the way I like it, with a good ratio of crumble to apple, not just super appley.  We all gave this a 9, and I made a basic creme anglaise to go with it.  Follow this link to this delicious recipe, and I will post the amounts I used here, it's pretty close to the same as the weighted ingredients.

2 c flour
pinch of salt
1 1/4 c brown sugar
18 T unsalted butter

3 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
1/4 c brown sugar
1 T flour
pinch of salt
dash of cinnamon

Mix together the apples, 1/4 c brown sugar, 1 T flour, salt and cinnamon.  Pour into a greased pan.  Mix together the first list of ingredients, and then pour them over the top of the apples.  Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.  Serve with custard, vanilla ice cream, or creme anglaise.

Each serving, we made 12 of them, with the cream sauce, was 403 calories.

AB Caramel Brownies

My mother asked me to post this recipe as soon as I could, so these are coming faster than I had planned, but it's worth it :)  These brownies were incredibly delicious, and high in calories, and fun to make :).  The boys made these with me, and it was easy and enjoyable.  These received a perfect 10 in our house, and each brownie was 381 calories, so super high since we cut the pan into sixteen brownies.  You can find the caramel brownie recipe at Kristen Ashley's website,   Try these at your own risk, they are incredibly rich, and so worth the calories :)  Just imagine super chocolate squares with a creamy caramel layer in there.
